  1. Rinse the split red lentils under running water.
  2. In a pressure cooker, add the rinsed lentils, water, chopped onion, tomato, garlic, ginger, green chili, turmeric powder, red chili powder, cumin powder, and coriander powder.
  3. Close the pressure cooker and cook on high heat until 3 whistles.
  4. Allow the pressure to release naturally.
  5. Open the pressure cooker and give the dal a good stir.
  6. In a small pan, heat oil and add garam masala. Fry for a few seconds.
  7. Pour the tempering over the cooked dal and mix well.
  8. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  9. Serve hot with rice or roti.
