Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Heat olive oil in a pan and sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until translucent.

In a large bowl, combine the sautéed onion and garlic with the canned baked beans, tomato paste, brown sugar, mustard, hot sauce, liquid smoke, salt, and black pepper. Mix well.

Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and cover it with aluminum foil.

Bake for 45 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes to allow the top to brown.

Remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before serving.
