Traditional Southern greens are often cooked with smoked meat like ham hocks or turkey legs to add flavor and richness to the dish.

  1. Wash the greens thoroughly and remove the tough stems. Chop the leaves into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the pot. Sautee until the onion is translucent.
  4. Add the greens to the pot and sautee for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Pour in the vegetable broth and apple cider vinegar. Add the sugar and red pepper flakes.
  6. Place the smoked turkey leg on top of the greens. Cover the pot and simmer for 40 minutes.
  7. Remove the turkey leg from the pot and shred the meat. Discard the bones.
  8. Return the shredded turkey to the pot and season with salt and black pepper.
  9. Simmer for an additional 5 minutes.
  10. Serve hot and enjoy!
