  1. Rinse the rice and lentils separately.
  2. Heat ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods, cloves, and bay leaf. Sauté for a minute.
  3. Add chopped onion, garlic, ginger, and green chilies. Sauté until onion turns golden brown.
  4. Add turmeric powder and salt. Mix well.
  5. Add rice and lentils. Stir for 2 minutes.
  6. Add water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until rice and lentils are cooked.
  7. Let it rest for 5 minutes. Fluff with a fork.
  8. Garnish with chopped cilantro and serve hot.
