  1. Rinse and drain the chickpeas.
  2. In a large pan, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  3. Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the pan. Sauté until onion becomes translucent.
  4. Add ground cumin, ground coriander, and turmeric powder to the pan. Stir well.
  5. Add basmati rice to the pan and stir for a minute.
  6. Add chickpeas and vegetable broth to the pan. Season with salt and black pepper.
  7. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pan and simmer for 20 minutes or until the rice is cooked and the liquid is absorbed.
  8. Remove the pan from heat and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  9. Fluff the pilaf with a fork and sprinkle with fresh cilantro and lemon juice before serving.
