Rinse the toor dal under running water.

In a pressure cooker, add the rinsed toor dal, water, and salt. Pressure cook for 3 whistles.

Heat oil in a pan. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.

Add chopped tomatoes, green chili, ginger, and garlic. Cook until tomatoes are soft.

Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and garam masala. Mix well.

Add the cooked toor dal and mix. Simmer for 10 minutes.

Garnish with chopped cilantro and lemon juice.

Serve hot with rice or roti.
