Rinse the lentils thoroughly and soak them in water for 30 minutes.

In a large pot, bring 3 cups of water to a boil and add the soaked lentils. Cook for 15-20 minutes or until the lentils are soft.

In a separate pan, heat vegetable oil and add chopped onions, garlic, ginger, and green chili. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.

Add chopped tomatoes, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and well combined.

Add the cooked lentils to the pan and mix well. Cook for another 5 minutes.
