Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, sauté until fragrant.

Add diced tomatoes and vegetable stock to the pot. Season with salt and black pepper.

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 20 minutes.

Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Using an immersion blender or regular blender, puree the soup until smooth.

Return the soup to the pot and heat over low heat. Stir in fresh basil leaves and cream.

Cook for an additional 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
