Kidney beans are named for their resemblance to human kidneys and are packed with protein and fiber.

  1. Rinse and drain the kidney beans.
  2. In a food processor, combine the kidney beans, onion, garlic cloves, breadcrumbs, flour, ground cumin, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Pulse until well combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into patties.
  4. Heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
  5. If desired, preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake the patties for an additional 10 minutes to ensure they are fully cooked.
  6. Let the patties rest for 5 minutes.
  7. Toast the hamburger buns.
  8. Assemble the burgers by placing a kidney bean patty on the bottom half of each bun. Top with lettuce, tomato slices, and pickles. Cover with the top half of the bun.
  9. Serve the kidney bean burgers with your favorite condiments and enjoy!
