Chickpeas are one of the oldest cultivated crops, dating back over 7,000 years.

This is vegan, gluten free and high protein recipe. Dish can be prepared in 45 minutes. Recipe requires some culinary experience (medium difficulty). Number of ingredients: 14.

  1. Soak the chickpeas overnight in water.
  2. Drain and rinse the chickpeas.
  3. In a pressure cooker, add soaked chickpeas, water, and salt.
  4. Cook for 20 minutes or until chickpeas are tender.
  5. In a separate pan, heat oil and add chopped onion, garlic, ginger, and green chili.
  6. Saute until onions turn golden brown.
  7. Add tomatoes and cook until they become soft.
  8. Add turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt.
  9. Mix well and cook for 2 minutes.
  10. Add the cooked chickpeas along with the water.
  11. Stir well and simmer for 10 minutes.
  12. Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  13. Serve hot with rice or naan bread.
