Rinse the red beans and soak them overnight.

In a large pot, add the soaked beans, onion, garlic cloves, tomato, cilantro, cumin, salt, pepper, bay leaf, and water.

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 1 hour or until the beans are tender.

Remove the bay leaf and serve the Colombian Red Beans hot with rice or arepas.
