  1. Rinse the brown rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a large pot, bring vegetable stock to a boil.
  3. Add the rinsed brown rice and ginger to the pot. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. While the rice is cooking, wash and chop the gai lan into small pieces.
  5. After 45 minutes, add the chopped gai lan to the pot and continue simmering for another 10 minutes.
  6. Remove the pot from heat and let it rest for 10 minutes.
  7. Stir in sesame oil, salt, and white pepper.
  8. Serve the rice porridge hot, garnished with chopped green onion and cilantro.
