Pour in the canned crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Stir well. Add sugar, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes to the saucepan. Stir to combine. Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for at least 1 hour, stirring occasionally. Serve the sauce over cooked pasta. Garnish with fresh basil leaves and grated Parmesan cheese if desired.
