Rinse and drain the black beans.

In a large mixing bowl, mash the black beans with a fork or potato masher.

Finely chop the onion and mince the garlic cloves.

Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, breadcrumbs, flour, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper to the mashed black beans.

Mix everything together until well combined.

Shape the mixture into 4 patties.

Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat.

Cook the black bean patties for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until crispy and browned.

Alternatively, you can bake the patties in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 15 minutes, flipping halfway through.

Remove the patties from the heat and let them rest for 5 minutes.
