Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).

Cut the tomatoes in half and place them on a baking sheet.

Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper.

Roast the tomatoes in the oven for 30 minutes.

In a large pot, sauté the onion and garlic in olive oil until softened.

Add the roasted tomatoes and vegetable broth to the pot.

Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes.

Use an immersion blender or regular blender to puree the soup until smooth.

Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil leaves.
