  5. While the onions are roasting, heat the vegetable broth in a saucepan over medium heat.
  6. Once the onions are done, remove them from the oven and transfer them to the saucepan with the vegetable broth.
  7. Let the onions simmer in the broth for 5 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  8. While the onions are simmering, toast the baguette slices in the oven or on a stovetop grill until crispy.
  9. Place the toasted baguette slices on a baking sheet and sprinkle them with grated Gruyere cheese.
  10. Broil the cheese-topped baguette slices in the oven until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. Serve the roasted French onion soup in individual bowls, with a cheese-topped baguette slice on top.
