Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

Slice the eggplant into thin rounds.

Brush both sides of the eggplant slices with olive oil.

Place the eggplant slices on a baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes.

Remove the baking sheet from the oven and flip the eggplant slices.

Spread pizza sauce on each eggplant slice.

Sprinkle mozzarella cheese and capers on top.

Bake for an additional 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Remove from the oven and let it rest for 5 minutes.

Garnish with fresh basil leaves, if desired.
