  1. Rinse the lentils and rice separately.
  2. Heat olive oil in a pot and add chopped onions. Cook until golden brown.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook for another minute.
  4. Add cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Stir well.
  5. Add lentils and rice to the pot and mix everything together.
  6. Pour water into the pot and bring it to a boil.
  7. Reduce the heat, cover the pot, and let it simmer for 20-25 minutes or until the lentils and rice are cooked.
  8. Remove from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  9. Garnish with fresh cilantro before serving.
