  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Remove the outer leaves of the cabbage and cut it into quarters, removing the core.
  3. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and blanch the cabbage for 5 minutes.
  4. Drain the cabbage and rinse with cold water.
  5. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent.
  6. Add the chopped apple, vinegar, sugar, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Place the blanched cabbage in a baking dish and pour the apple-onion mixture over it.
  8. Add water to the baking dish.
  9. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
  11. Serve hot as a side dish or as a main course.
