Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Sauté until the onion becomes translucent and the garlic is fragrant.

Stir in the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Add the dried basil, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar. Mix well.

Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

After simmering, remove the saucepan from heat and let the sauce rest for 10 minutes.
