Koshari is considered the national dish of Egypt and has been a popular street food since the 19th century.

This is vegan, gluten free and high protein recipe. Dish can be prepared in 70 minutes. Recipe requires some culinary experience (medium difficulty). Number of ingredients: 12.

  1. Cook the rice, lentils, and pasta separately according to their package instructions.
  2. In a pan, heat vegetable oil and fry the chopped onion until golden brown. Remove half of the fried onions and set aside for garnish.
  3. Add garlic to the pan and sauté for a minute.
  4. Add tomato sauce, cumin, salt, and black pepper to the pan. Cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Drain the cooked rice, lentils, and pasta and add them to the pan. Mix well.
  6. Add vinegar and cook for another 5 minutes.
  7. Serve the koshari hot, topped with the reserved fried onions.
