In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat.

Add onion, carrot, celery, and garlic to the pot. Saute until vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.

Stir in canned tomatoes, vegetable broth, bay leaves, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper.

Bring the soup to a boil, then reduce heat to low and let it simmer for 20 minutes.

Add canned beans and short pasta to the pot. Cook until pasta is al dente, about 10 minutes.
