Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, and sauté until translucent.

Add tomatoes, vegetable stock, basil leaves, salt, and black pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.

Remove from heat and let cool slightly. Use an immersion blender or transfer to a blender to puree until smooth.

Return the soup to the pot and stir in the cream. Cook over low heat for another 5 minutes.
