Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.

In a large saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic cloves. Cook until the onion becomes translucent.

Add the turmeric, cumin, salt, and black pepper to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.

Add the rinsed rice to the saucepan and stir to coat the rice with the spices.

Pour in the vegetable broth and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let it simmer for 15 minutes.

After 15 minutes, remove the saucepan from heat and let it rest, covered, for 5 minutes.

Fluff the rice with a fork and stir in the frozen peas. Cover the saucepan again and let it sit for another 5 minutes to allow the peas to thaw and heat through.
