Dates are one of the oldest cultivated fruits and have been a staple food in the Middle East for thousands of years.

This is vegan recipe. Dish can be prepared in 70 minutes. Recipe requires some culinary experience (medium difficulty). Number of ingredients: 13.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a loaf pan.
  2. In a small bowl, combine the dates, boiling water, and baking soda. Let it stand for 10 minutes.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the applesauce, brown sugar, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.
  5. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix well.
  6. Stir in the date mixture and chopped walnuts.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  8. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
  10. Transfer to a wire rack and let it cool completely before slicing and serving.
