  1. Wash and soak the basmati rice for 30 minutes. Drain the water.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Once they splutter, add finely chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  3. Add grated ginger and garlic and sauté for a minute.
  4. Add grated carrots and green peas. Cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Add turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt. Mix well.
  6. Add soaked rice and water. Mix gently.
  7. Cover the pan and cook on low heat for 15-20 minutes or until the rice is cooked.
  8. Remove from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  9. Fluff the rice with a fork and garnish with chopped cilantro.
  10. Serve hot.
