Rinse the toor dal under running water.

In a pressure cooker, add the rinsed toor dal, water, turmeric powder, and salt.

Pressure cook for 4-5 whistles or until the dal is cooked.

In a pan, heat ghee and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, asafoetida, dried red chilies, and curry leaves.

Add crushed garlic and ginger. Saute for a minute.

Add chopped onion and cook until golden brown.

Add chopped tomato and green chili. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.

Add the cooked toor dal and mix well.

Cook for 5 minutes on low heat.

Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.

Serve hot with rice or roti.
