  1. Rinse the toor dal under running water.
  2. In a pressure cooker, add the rinsed toor dal, water, turmeric powder, and salt.
  3. Pressure cook for 4-5 whistles or until the dal is cooked.
  4. In a pan, heat ghee and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, asafoetida, dried red chilies, and curry leaves.
  5. Add crushed garlic and ginger. Saute for a minute.
  6. Add chopped onion and cook until golden brown.
  7. Add chopped tomato and green chili. Cook until the tomatoes are soft.
  8. Add the cooked toor dal and mix well.
  9. Cook for 5 minutes on low heat.
  10. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves.
  11. Serve hot with rice or roti.
