Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat.

Add chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until onion is translucent and garlic is fragrant.

Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and sugar.

Bring to a simmer and cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
