Heat vegetable oil in a pot over medium heat.

Add chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until golden brown.

Add cumin, coriander, turmeric, salt, and black pepper, and stir well.

Add okra and cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Add chopped tomatoes and water, cover the pot, and simmer for 20 minutes.

Remove from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes.

Serve hot with rice or bread.
