Rinse the beans and soak them in water overnight.

In a large pot, heat olive oil and sauté the chopped onion, carrot, celery, and garlic until softened.

Add the soaked beans, vegetable broth, tomato paste, bay leaves, salt, and black pepper to the pot.

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for about 1 hour or until the beans are tender.

Remove the bay leaves and adjust the seasoning if needed.
