Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.

Add onion and garlic, and sauté until onion is translucent.

Add butternut squash, corn, black beans, vegetable broth, cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper.

Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes, or until butternut squash is tender.

Remove from heat and let rest for 10 minutes.

Use an immersion blender to puree the soup until smooth.
