Rinse the red lentils and soak them in water for 30 minutes. Drain the water.

In a blender, blend the lentils, onion, garlic, ginger, coriander powder, cumin powder, turmeric powder, chili powder, gram flour, lemon juice, fresh coriander leaves, and salt until smooth.

Grease a steamer tray and spoon the lentil mixture onto it, shaping it into dumplings.

Steam the dumplings for 15-20 minutes, or until cooked through.

In a separate pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds. Once they start to crackle, add curry leaves and sauté for a minute.

Add chopped tomato, sugar, and water to the pan. Cook for 5-7 minutes, until the tomatoes are soft.

Transfer the steamed lentil dumplings to the pan with the tangy gravy and simmer for 5 minutes.
