  1. Rinse and drain the black beans.
  2. In a large pot, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  3. Add chopped onion, minced garlic, and diced red bell pepper. Sauté until softened.
  4. Stir in ground cumin and chili powder.
  5. Add black beans, vegetable stock, and tomato paste. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
  6. Use an immersion blender to blend the soup until smooth, or transfer to a blender and blend in batches.
  7. Stir in lime juice, salt, and black pepper.
  8. Serve hot, garnished with cilantro, sour cream, and crushed tortilla chips.
