Shred the cabbage and dice the potatoes, carrots, and onion.

In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil and sauté the onions until translucent.

Add the carrots and potatoes, and cook for 5 minutes.

Stir in the tomato paste until well combined.

Add the cabbage, bay leaves, black pepper, salt, and water to the pot.

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 45 minutes or until the vegetables are tender.

Serve hot with a dollop of sour cream on top.
