  2. Soak tamarind in warm water and extract the pulp.
  3. In a pan, heat oil and add mustard seeds, cumin seeds, curry leaves, and asafoetida.
  4. Add chopped vegetables and sauté for a few minutes.
  5. Add sambar powder, tamarind pulp, salt, and water. Cook until vegetables are tender.
  6. Add cooked dal to the pan and simmer for 5 minutes.
  7. Serve hot with rice or idli.
