  1. Wash the lentils thoroughly and soak them in water for 10 minutes.
  2. In a pressure cooker, add the soaked lentils, water, chopped onion, tomato, ginger, garlic, green chili, turmeric powder, and red chili powder.
  3. Close the lid and cook on medium heat for 3-4 whistles.
  4. In a separate pan, heat oil and add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, asafoetida, and curry leaves. Let them splutter.
  5. Add the tempering to the cooked lentils and mix well.
  6. Add salt and simmer for 5 minutes.
  7. Garnish with coriander leaves and lemon juice.
  8. Serve hot with rice or roti.
