  1. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar. Add molasses and egg, and mix well.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until well combined.
  4. Divide the dough in half and shape each half into a disk. Wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  5. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to a thickness of about 1/4 inch (6 cm). Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes.
  7. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until lightly golden around the edges.
  8. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
