  1. Rinse and drain the black beans.
  2. In a large bowl, mash the black beans using a fork or potato masher.
  3. Finely chop the red bell pepper, red onion, garlic cloves, and fresh cilantro.
  4. Add the chopped vegetables, breadcrumbs, ground cumin, chili powder, salt, and black pepper to the mashed black beans. Mix well.
  5. Form the mixture into patties and place them on a baking sheet.
  6. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Cook the patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side until they are golden brown.
  7. Toast the whole wheat burger buns.
  8. Assemble the burgers by placing a patty on each bun, topped with lettuce leaves, tomato slices, and avocado slices.
  9. Serve hot and enjoy!
