In a bowl, mix together cornmeal, all-purpose flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg and buttermilk.

Dip each okra piece in the egg mixture, then coat it in the cornmeal mixture.

Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

Fry the coated okra pieces in batches until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
