  1. In a large pot, heat some olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion, carrot, celery, and garlic. Cook until the vegetables are softened, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the tomatoes, fava beans, vegetable broth, cumin, coriander, turmeric, and cayenne pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20 minutes.
  3. Use an immersion blender to partially puree the soup, leaving some chunks of vegetables and beans.
  4. Stir in the lemon juice, cilantro, salt, and black pepper. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  5. Serve hot and garnish with additional cilantro, if desired.
