  1. Rinse the lentils under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a large pot, add the lentils and water and bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat to low and simmer for about 20 minutes until the lentils are tender.
  4. In a separate pan, heat oil over medium heat and sauté the onion, garlic, and ginger until golden brown.
  5. Add the tomatoes and cook until they soften.
  6. Add the turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt. Stir well.
  7. Transfer the tomato mixture to the pot with lentils and simmer for another 10 minutes.
  8. Garnish with fresh cilantro and lemon juice.
  9. Serve hot with rice or naan bread.
