Red braised tofu, also known as “Dubu-jorim”, is a popular Korean dish that combines the flavors of spicy gochujang and sweet brown sugar to create a deliciously balanced sauce for the tofu.

  1. Cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes and pat dry with a paper towel.
  2. Slice the scallions into 2-inch pieces, separating the white and green parts.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce, gochujang, brown sugar, and water.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the tofu cubes and cook until golden brown on all sides. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  5. In the same skillet, add the white parts of the scallions, garlic, and ginger. Stir-fry for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  6. Return the tofu to the skillet and pour the sauce mixture over it. Stir gently to coat the tofu.
  7. Cover the skillet and let it simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  8. Remove from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes.
  9. Drizzle with toasted sesame oil and garnish with green parts of scallions and toasted sesame seeds.
  10. Serve hot and enjoy!
