Jamaican vegetable patties, also known as ‘veggie patties’, are a popular street food in Jamaica and are often enjoyed as a quick and flavorful snack.

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, baking powder, turmeric powder, curry powder, and salt.
  2. Gradually add cold water to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough for a few minutes.
  3. In a skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the onion, garlic, and Scotch bonnet pepper. Cook until the onion is translucent.
  4. Add the grated carrot, potato, frozen peas, frozen corn, thyme leaves, ground allspice, and ground black pepper. Cook for 5 minutes.
  5. Pour in the vegetable stock and cook until the vegetables are tender.
  6. Remove the skillet from heat and let the mixture cool.
  7. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  8. Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and roll each portion into a ball.
  9. On a floured surface, roll out each ball into a circle.
  10. Spoon the vegetable filling onto one half of each circle.
  11. Fold the other half of the circle over the filling to form a semicircle.
  12. Press the edges of the dough together to seal the patties.
  13. Place the patties on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  14. Brush the patties with vegetable oil and sprinkle bread crumbs on top.
  15. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden brown.
  16. Allow the patties to rest for 10 minutes before serving.
