  1. Rinse the lentils thoroughly and soak them in water for 30 minutes.
  2. In a large pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil.
  3. Add the soaked lentils to the boiling water and cook for 20-25 minutes until they are tender.
  4. In a separate pan, heat some oil and sauté the chopped onion, garlic, and ginger until they turn golden brown.
  5. Add the chopped tomato and cook until it becomes soft.
  6. Add the turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt to the pan. Mix well.
  7. Transfer the cooked lentils to the pan and mix everything together.
  8. Add garam masala and cook for another 5 minutes.
  9. Garnish with chopped cilantro and drizzle with lemon juice.
  10. Serve hot with rice or naan bread.
