Rinse the red lentils thoroughly.

In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add the lentils. Cook for about 15 minutes or until tender.

In a separate pan, heat oil and sauté the onions until golden brown.

Add minced garlic and ginger to the pan and cook for another minute.

Stir in the tomatoes, turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, and salt. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and well combined.
