Trim the ends of the green beans and blanch in boiling water for 3 minutes. Drain and set aside.

Slice the onion thinly.

Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat and add the sliced onion. Cook until caramelized, about 10 minutes.

Add brown sugar to the caramelized onions and stir until dissolved.

Add the blanched green beans to the pan and toss to coat with the caramelized onions.

Season with salt and black pepper.

Cook for an additional 5 minutes, until the green beans are tender.
