Wash and dry the okra. Cut off the ends and slice into 1/2 inch pieces.

In a bowl, combine the cornmeal, cornstarch, salt, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper.

Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.

Dredge the okra in the cornmeal mixture, making sure each piece is coated.

Place the coated okra in the frying pan and cook for 5-6 minutes, or until golden brown.

Use a slotted spoon to remove the okra from the pan and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
