Pemmican was originally created by Native Americans as a high-energy food that could be easily transported and stored for long periods of time.

Chop the dried fruits, nuts, and seeds into small pieces.

In a large bowl, combine the chopped ingredients.

Add honey or maple syrup to the bowl and mix well until everything is coated.

Line a baking dish with parchment paper.

Transfer the mixture into the baking dish and press it down firmly.

Sprinkle coconut flakes and cocoa powder (optional) on top.

Cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

Once chilled, cut into bars or bite-sized pieces.
