Dates Maamoul

Maamoul is a traditional Middle Eastern pastry that is often made to celebrate religious holidays, such as Eid al-Fitr.
This is vegan and gluten free recipe. Dish can be prepared in 110 minutes. Recipe requires some culinary experience (medium difficulty). Number of ingredients: 10.

In a food processor, blend dates until smooth.

In a large bowl, mix together semolina, bulgur, melted butter, rosewater, orange blossom water, cinnamon, and cardamom.

Knead the dough until it comes together.

Take a small portion of the dough and flatten it in your palm.

Place a small amount of the date paste in the center of the dough.

Fold the dough over the filling and shape it into a ball.

Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.

Place the maamoul on a baking sheet and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 20 minutes, or until golden brown.

Allow the maamoul to cool completely.

Dust with powdered sugar and garnish with pistachios, if desired.
