  1. Rinse the split green mung beans and soak them in water for 30 minutes.
  2. Drain the water and add the soaked mung beans to a pressure cooker.
  3. Add 4 cups of water, salt, and turmeric powder to the pressure cooker.
  4. Pressure cook for 4-5 whistles or until the mung beans are cooked.
  5. Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds and asafoetida.
  6. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  7. Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
  8. Add chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn soft.
  9. Add red chili powder, coriander powder, and garam masala powder.
  10. Cook for a minute and then add the cooked mung beans.
  11. Mix well and simmer for 5 minutes.
  12. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
  13. Serve hot with rice or roti.
